Agriculture is part of the daily routine in the Smurf Village.
Empath: The Luckiest Smurf stories
In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, Farmer Smurf is in charge of the fields, with Miller responsible for harvesting and threshing wheat to grind into flour. Farmer's work starts around 5:00 in the morning and doesn't end until around 7:00 at night, when he turns in for the night. His job is to make sure the food crops are watered and well-tended, that the soil is fertile for planting new crops and that bugs and moles won't show up to ruin them. He must make sure that the harvested crops will be delivered to Greedy's kitchen on time.
Hero: The Guardian Smurf stories
Farmer, along with his Mirror Of Opposition-created Smurfette counterpart Hayweed, and their son Huckleberry, together work on producing food for their fellow Smurfs in the HERO: The Guardian Smurf story series.
LD Stories/Expanded AU
Within The Light and Dark Series, which crosses over with the Expanded Animated Universe, certain individuals are more adapted to agricultural lifestyles than others, and their work is vital to ensure the survival of their races in most respects.
Smurfs
In the Smurf Village, Farmer Smurf is th most well-known agricultural expert, who often works alone maintaining and nourishing his fields beyond the village limits. He will always have assistance from his fellow Smurfs when harvest time arrives (mostly before winter), and occasionally has volunteer farmhands the rest of the year (the Smurflings, Papa Smurf, Hefty, etc.).
Other Smurfs with "green thumbs" are Papa Smurf, whose efforts are primaily for magical experiments in his lab, and Smurfette, who primarily focuses on gardening as her contribution to the village.
Humans
Every kingdom has serfs and specialists alike who contribute to the agricultural balance of the land, but some members of the Royal Courts have been known to practice gardening at their own leisure, such as Peewit as a means of having his own secret food supply (although he needs more patience to be successful). However, Princess Savina is required to be well-informed of plant variety as one of her lessons, but is seldom allowed to do any gardening of her own, even if she wishes to do so.
Others
Soley within the Expanded AU, a Woodelf named Dorgone is a known farmer in his own clan, from which Wisteria lives. What he lacks in charisma and elegance, he makes up for with honesty and integrity.
