In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, the Smurflings are usually in charge of making sure Puppy is well fed and exercised. Greedy helps with the feeding, Barber helps with the grooming, and Tracker helps with taking Puppy out into the forest to allow him some room to run around and also to relieve himself.
Smurfette takes care of the needs of her pet Squeaky, as does Nanny Smurf with her pet marsupial Smoogle and Sassette with her pet frog.
