Azrael is a character who appears in the Expanded Animated Universe.
History[]
He has been Gargamel's cat ever since Gargamel was in Wizard's School. He is the distant descendant of the Egyptian cat pharaoh Azra, which Chlorhydris discovered had royal blood in his veins and used to help her gain access to the Wishing Well within the Forest of Thorns.
Personality[]
Azrael is known to be vicious to the Smurfs and a bit sarcastic to his master Gargamel. At one time when he was injured by one of Gargamel's iron traps, he seemed to be grateful to the Smurfs, but when he heard his master calling his name, his evil nature returned and he would have shredded Nat Smurf if not for the appearance of the silver-fanged growler chasing Azrael away.
Role[]
His role is Gargamel's faithful pet, who always helps his master chase after and capture the Smurfs.
Appearance[]
As in the cartoon show, Azrael has brown fur with a white muzzle and underbelly.
