Bayard is an animal character from the original comics and cartoon show. His Wiki page is located here. He also exists in The Smurfs: Light and Dark.
Background Information
Appearing in the original comics and continued throughout The Smurfs and the Magic Flute film and Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, Bayard is a trusty service animal who has lived in the Good King's castle stables since birth.
Relationship with Sir Johan
He is dearly loved by his rider and primary caretaker, Sir Johan, to whom he is loyal and willingly transports him on their adventures. His intelligence and readiness to defend his rider in times of danger are clear evidence of the strong relationship between them, and his eagerness to please Johan makes him a spirited character.
- Season 2 -- Following the conclusion of The Reluctant Dark Knight, Bayard is unsettled when Johan is stolen for the side of Evil. More to come later!
Appearance
Bayard is a European-mixed horse breed with a full white coat and about ten black spots (two on the front legs, three on the hind legs on either side). He has a matching white mane, which is trimmed up front and clean-shaven along his neck, and a full-length tail. He has a muscular form with rounded features, gentle standard black eyes, and stands about 16 hands high (64" or 162.56 centimeters).
Voice Actor(s)
Frank Welker is the mostly likely person to have created the various sounds that Bayard (and other horses) make during the cartoon show. He is continually desired for this role.
Trivia
- The term "Bayard" is not any particular French word, but there is a "Bayard Street" in several places around the globe.
- In the cartoon show, there are several Johan & Peewit episodes in which Johan's horse is brown. This is most likely an error stemming from a lack of proper continuity from the HB Studio during production.
- The true breed of Bayard is generalized to a simple "horse" in mainstream media. In Numbuh 404's accounts, he is a mix breed consisting of the following: Lipizzan (35%), White horse (30%), Arabian/Arab horse (20%), and Austrian Warmblood (15%).
