Chocolate is a raw or processed food that is normally produced from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree.
In Smurfs Media[]
In the Smurfs cartoon show, chocolate comes from the pools of the Dark Ness Cavern, in one of which lies the Dark Ness Monster.
In the Girls' Village comics, cacao trees grow in the Forbidden Forest, called "kako" by the girls. They use it in drinks.

In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, chocolate can be found from a special plant growing in the Smurf Forest and is used by the Smurfs in the creation of candies, foods, and drinks. The fruit, which Farmer likes to refer to as the chocolate tomato, resembles the black sapote, or the chocolate pudding fruit, that grows in Mexico. Sometimes when the fruit isn't available, the Smurfs would use carob powder as a substitute. On Utopia Island, there is a mud pool where the mud has the same consistency and flavor of chocolate.
Hefty, although a health nut, prefers chocolate cake for his birthday and so gets a separate cake made of chocolate while his brother Handy gets a smurfberry birthday cake. Sculptor tried creating a chocolate sculpture of Hefty holding up a set of barbells for his birthday cake, but the sun melted the sculpture so that it appeared that Hefty was tired from lifting up the barbells, earning the laughter of his fellow Smurfs and the ire of Hefty. One time on one of Hefty's birthdays, Jokey made for him a special birthday cake that he claimed was made entirely of chocolate, which Hefty completely ate, not knowing that the "chocolate" that Jokey used in the cake was actually Smurf poop.
Empath considers the eating of chocolate to be therapeutic, which has led to his friend Polaris Psyche eating it as part of his ice cream sundaes when he was able to eat everything besides nutrient paste.
Occasionally, some Smurfs would lace the chocolate with a smurfnip extract for an added kick.

In the HERO: The Guardian Smurf mini-story "Hero's Sticky Situation", Jokey causes Hero to be coated in chocolate with one of his pranks, making him the target of desire for both Smurfette and Wonder. Chocolate is mostly enjoyed by Wonder, Smurfette, and the Smurflings. During Wonder's pregnancy with Saviour, she had a craving for chocolate, for which Hero went to the chocolate pits in an attempt to get some. Greedy's favorite dish to make is chocolate coconut truffles, which he sings a song about.
Glovey Stories[]
In the Smurf Me Up series, chocolate is mentioned in the Moody For Chocolate mini-story, which involves Glovey Smurf gathering chocolate from the Dark Ness Cavern and makes references to the Smurfs episode The Dark Ness Monster.
