A joint
A cigarette is a small paper cylinder filled with tobacco or a similar substance that is used for the habit of smoking. One end of the cigarette is lit up and left to smoulder while the other end is used to inhale the smoke that the smouldering end produces. A variant of the cigarette is the joint, in which tobacco or a smoking herb (more commonly cannabis) is put inside a rolling paper and wrapped tightly, with the inhaling end using a cardboard filter called a "roach" to prevent fingers from being burned by the smoldering end of the joint. A more recent invention called the electronic cigarette (also called a vaporizer) creates vapors from a chemical solution for the person to inhale in the same manner as a regular cigarette, but without the carcinogens that are present in cigarette smoke.
By and large, cigarettes do not appear in mainstream Smurfs media stories since they are mostly written and produced for children, but are most likely to be found in fan works of an adult nature.
Empath: The Luckiest Smurf stories[]
A similar item resembling a joint was created by a few Smurfs in the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series which was filled with smurfnip. Other substances were also tried, but eventually Papa Smurf had forbidden the creation and use of cigarettes in the Smurf Village, though he hasn't been successful in enforcing the ban as very few Smurfs are even willing to enforce it. Empath in particular just doesn't like the taste of cigarettes (or specifically the taste of smoking stinkweed), while Hefty, Tuffy, and Duncan do not find smoking to be a healthy activity. Some Smurfs might wield lollipops or candy sticks in the same fashion as cigarettes. Eventually there were Smurfs who turned to using vaporizers as an alternative to cigarettes or pipes.
The Mirror Universe Smurfs tend to be heavy users of cigarettes, including the Smurflings.

Glovey Story[]
Most notably in the Glovey Smurf musical "Smurfed Lightning" (which is an adaptation of the musical Grease), cigarettes have been replaced with candy sticks used by the main characters in the musical.
