Clumsy Smurf is a Smurf character, and one the main protagonists of the Butterverse.

History[]

Clumsy Smurf is one of the adult members of Smurf village, and one of the most prominent characters in the Smurfs adventures. He, like the rest of his friends in the adult generation, were taken care of by Papa Smurf after a virus wiped out the rest of the previous generation, resulting in a loss of what would have been the main character's parents. He currently resides in the village.

Personality[]

Clumsy is an optimistic, polite and gold hearted Smurf who never lets his misfortune drag him down. Although he is aware of his klutzy nature, Clumsy is still one of the first guys to offer help or assistance to those who need it, and can always be relied on to support his fellow Smurfs emotionally. He's not the most academically inclined Smurf either, but he acknowledges his own limitations, and overtime has come to find the others love him for them just the same.

Appearance[]

Clumsy is average height for a male Smurf, although perhaps slightly on the chubbier side. He wears a standard white hat and leggings, the former of which droops down slightly over the top of his eyes. He has freckles on his cheeks, nose, chin, ears and shoulders. He speaks with a Southern American accent.

Role In The Village[]

Clumsy's main job in the village is making up one half of the Fireman team, along with his friend Dopey Smurf. They aren't the most proficient at this job, but they're eager and try their best in spite of any mishaps that may occur with their ineptitude. If he's not at the fire station, Clumsy can be found doing odd jobs around the village, or more commonly trying to keep a hold of his children, who he usually stays at home to look after.

Relationships[]

Papa Smurf[]

Clumsy is close to, and admires Papa Smurf for his wisdom and kindness. In turn, Clumsy is one of Papa's most cherished Smurfs, although he does sometimes wish he could help Clumsy help himself.

Smurfette[]

Clumsy, like a lot of the male Smurfs at first, used to have a crush on Smurfette. This eventually faded to become platonic feelings instead, but they still regard each other as close friends, and their shared empathetic natures are often a source of comfort to each other as well as other Smurfs.

Pansy The Pixie[]

Pansy is one of Clumsy's close friends, and his first love, although a relationship was never established beyond the initial mutual attraction. Every summer, Clumsy travels to Pussywillow Hollow to watch the firefly dances with her, a tradition they've upheld for many years.

Brainy Smurf[]

Brainy Smurf is undeniably Clumsy's best friend. Despite their differences and frequent arguments (or, well, Brainy yelling at him) there is no doubt the two care about each other deeply. Brainy is one of the first Clumsy will go to for advice on his issues, even though he's aware Brainy's help sometimes does more harm than good. As teenagers, Clumsy developed a crush on his best friend, but this was never explicitly reciprocated, and their friendship grew tense for a short time. Once Brainy began a relationship with Gutsy Smurf, the awkwardness wore off, and Clumsy was pleased to have his best friend back for good. He and Brainy can still often be seen together hanging out in the village, and both of their families are very close.

SmurfStorm[]

Stormy was Clumsy's first established romantic relationship, and later became the mother of their twin sons when the stork brought them two Smurflings at once. Following the defeat of Gargamel from using the Grove residents for power, SmurfStorm maintained that she was impressed by Clumsy's unexpected skills with her dragonfly, and offered to teach him a little bit more if he so wished, once Clumsy became the owner of his own dragonfly Looping. During this time, the two became close friends and Stormy eventually asked him out, which Clumsy happily accepted. Both villages were rather surprised by the unusual pairing, but many were supportive too, even though Brainy maintained that he didn't think it wise to mix Clumsy's accident-prone self with Stormy's ferocity. This trepidation increased when the couple applied for, and were granted Smurflings. Unexpectedly, two arrived at the same time, and they began to raise the twins. Stormy maintained that she did not wish to get married.

Alas, this was not the happy ending Clumsy had originally envisioned. Over the years she had spent raising her sons, Stormy had begun to hunger for life on Spitfire again before he grew too old, and she was missing the grove in general, finding life in the village to be less exciting for her. Clumsy agreed to wait out her missions if she wanted to return to her job, and for a while it seemed ok. However new threats were constant, and SmurfStorm would be away for weeks at a time, leaving Clumsy to raise the twins single handily most days. Eventually, it came to a head when Stormy finally broke down, admitting she could no longer keep travelling between her family and her job, and feared she would grow to resent them if she was forced to stay away from her work. With a heavy heart, Clumsy agreed to let her go, and the couple separated amicably. They still remain as good friends.

Handy Smurf[]

Handy was one of Clumsy's closest friends going back to Smurfling-hood, and the two have always regarded each other to be in some sort of symbiosis, with Clumsy's tendency to break things needing to be fixed by the handyman, and Handy's endless job supply keeping him busy. Coincidentally, not long after Clumsy and SmurfStorm's separation, Clumsy came to hear about Handy's own break up with his mermaid lover Marina, and noticed the period of depression that followed. One time, out of desperation, Clumsy requested that his old friend look after his twins, who often proved to be a handful without their mother's more assertive nature to keep their energy in check. Handy agreed once, but Clumsy found that he was the best fit to be a partial sitter for him, as Clumsy's other friends were too busy with their preteens, whilst Handy was now a single Smurf. Overtime, it became routine for Clumsy to leave the twins with Handy, and even on days where Clumsy wasn't busy, the four of them would often hang out together. It's through this mutual agreement that Clumsy and Handy began to develop a better relationship, bonding over their shared experience in having to let their lovers attend to duties they could not follow. It wasn't long before Clumsy realised he'd fallen in love with his old friend, but held back from saying anything out of fear of rejection and his own insecurity.

Eventually, Clumsy's sons caught on to their father's feelings and attempted to help by trying to leave the two alone in places, which Handy cottoned on to. It was then he was able to reveal his own feelings, to which Clumsy felt a great sense of relief. The two became official, and the four of them had never felt happier. A few years into their relationship, the Smurfs held a firework display, during the middle of which Handy proposed at the back of the crowd, which Clumsy eagerly accepted. The two were married the following spring, and Clumsy's sons were officially adopted by their new step-father. A couple of months later, the two applied for a Smurfling of their own, and were granted a daughter by the storks.

Crash, Bolt and Mari[]

Clumsy is currently the only Smurf to have {his biological} children that are half-siblings. Clumsy has done the majority of the childcare for the three of them, and as such has a close and loving relationship with all of them. He does sometimes find it difficult to control the twin's hyperactive natures (and tendency to destroy things accidentally) but the three of them remember how it was to be on their own for a short while, and he has their respect for that. With Mari, she has a much calmer personality, as well as being quite a bit younger, and Clumsy finds her infinitely more manageable as one, well-behaved kid. When her first word was 'ocean' it was Clumsy that suggested her name reflect their old mermaid friends, and Handy's lost love, Marina, although 'Mari' is also a shortened version of 'Marine Biologist Smurf' which Clumsy feels works out regardless.
