Gargamel is a character who appears in the Expanded Animated Universe.
History[]
Gargamel first met the Smurfs when he was still a student at Wizard's School, with his first attempt at capturing them failing. Since then, he has devised numerous plans for capturing or destroying the Smurfs, with all of them coming to failure one way or another. One of his creations, a female Smurf named Smurfette, was changed into a real Smurf and turned against him, choosing to remain faithful to the Smurfs.
Personality[]
Gargamel is an evil wizard who will stop at nothing to capture or destroy the Smurfs, although there are times when he would even balk at his own godfather's methods for capturing or destroying Smurfs. He acts rather disdainful toward both his cat Azrael and his apprentice Scruple, the latter of which he had to accept from the Dean of Wizards in order to be possibly given a seat at the Wizard's School.
Role[]
He serves as the main antagonist of the Smurfs, acting as a competent if not entirely masterful wizard. He is usually accompanied by his pet cat Azrael, and sometimes by his apprentice Scruple.
Appearance[]
As in the cartoon show, he has a balding head crowned with black hair, has a long nose, a mouth with only one tooth in it, and wears a ragged and patched black wizard's robe and red shoes.
