Gourdy is a character from the original cartoon show. His Wiki page is located here. He also exists in The Smurfs: Light and Dark.

Background Information

Gourdy is a kind and loving little genie with a unique ability to grant his master unlimited wishes so long as he remains in their ownership. When Farmer Smurf found his enchanted gourd in a melon patch, Gourdy reveals that his last master had imprisoned him within the gourd as punishment for having displeased them. Evidently, he was abandoned shortly thereafter.

Role in the Series

Farmer decides to lend his little genie unto other Smurfs on an at-will basis, giving some (arguably) lucky Smurf a chance to have their wishes granted for one day in the hopes that Gourdy will eventually learn to control his magic. At sunset, he returns to Farmer and shares his experience with whichever Smurf he accompanied. This allows Farmer to determine whether he should consider giving that Smurf another "Genie Day" in the future.

Relationship with Farmer Smurf

Farmer was not keen about being anyone's "master," but he recognizes that this tiny genie has a good heart. While Gargamel was Gourdy's new master following Farmer's most spiteful wish, the little genie was heartbroken by having been abandoned again. However, this was not enough to sway him into being loyal to Gargamel -- especially as Gargamel commanded him to capture every Smurf -- and Farmer realized that Gourdy's loyalty was determined by free will, not by ordinance of the enchanted gourd.

He is loyal to Farmer and remains as such because the Smurf is patient and forgiving despite all the times that Gourdy's magic has caused more problems than it solves. Gourdy means no harm and is quick to fix his mistakes, making it difficult for Farmer to stay mad at him for very long -- although, Farmer did once wish that he had never found the enchanted gourd in his melon patch. Thankfully, Farmer was able to become Gourdy's master again, and he resides in the Smurf Village as close to his master as permitted.

Appearance

Gourdy is very tiny, being shorter than a Smurfling, with standard black eyes, bisque-white skin, a long pointed nose, and a round face. He also has four-fingered hands. He wears a large lavender turban adorned with a reddish-brown Carnelian stone and a strip of green fabric. He has matching Carnelian ball earrings, an open black sleeveless vest and matching mask, lavender harem pants with a green waistband, and violet Arabian pointed shoes.

Voice Actor(s)

His original voice actor was Marvin Kaplan, and another has yet to be selected for this role.

Trivia

  • Gourdy's design is based on that of the genie from the Peyo comic series, "Pierrot and the Lamp." Hence, no change will be implemented to his design in this series.
