"Being a father and a king at the same time is never an easy job."
King Goldenrod is a character who is part of the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series. He is a pixie king who is the father of Periwinkle, a princess who is very beautiful yet very vain, and who came across the equally handsome yet very vain Vanity Smurf while looking into her magic mirror one morning. King Goldenrod helped Papa Smurf track down Vanity when Periwinkle captured him and threatened to destroy him. Fortunately, Vanity managed to keep Periwinkle from doing that when he empathized with her desire for perfection, and they became close friends, yet never becoming lovers as the both of them are already involved with someone else -- themselves.
King Goldenrod appeared in the story "The High Cost Of Smurfing" when Empath and Papa Smurf visited his kingdom after finding out Vanity was using a recreational variant of pixie dust as a drug. The king was informed by Scullcap that Vanity had allegedly stolen pixie dust from the kingdom to use for his own personal pleasure, which would be considered a crime. However, during the investigation of the situation, Empath and Periwinkle discovered that Scullcap was developing a drug ring right inside the kingdom, and that he most likely was the one who introduced Vanity to the recreational variant of pixie dust and got him addicted to it. Scullcap tried to frame Empath, Papa Smurf, and Periwinkle as criminals who conspired to steal more pixie dust, but when Polaris Psyche brought evidence before the king that Scullcap had conspired with a troll named Wild Dagga to sell the recreational variant of pixie dust for a profit, the king declared Scullcap and Wild Dagga guilty of trafficking illegal substances from the kingdom and declared Empath, Papa Smurf, Vanity, and Periwinkle innocent.
