Nathaniel "Nathan" Foxtrot II is an original character in The Light and Dark Series. He only appears in the Season 1 episode, "Smurfs in the City."
Background Information
Nathan is a young college student living in New York City during the 1980's and one of the descendants of the famous German inventor, Johannes Gutenberg, who was known for inventing the modern printing press in the early 15th Century. Since childhood, he has kept a page from one of his ancestor's long-lost journals in his possession, which is written in German. It includes a line that indicates the presence of "little blue people to whom [he owes] a debt of gratitude." To Nathan, this meant that the ancient legends about such creatures existing in various cultures around the world were true, although his parents never believed this. It is not until he meets the time-travelling Smurfs that he can confirm he was right.
Personality
Nathan is a docile and caring young man who loves Disco-era music, playing games at the local arcade, and reading. He also seems to enjoy cooking since he is shown preparing meals for the Smurfs during their visit.
Relationship with Tony Booker
Nathan and Tony are childhood friends who share a belief that the legends about little blue creatures existing in various ancient cultures around the world are true. They are currently attending college together and share a dorm room.
Appearance
Nathan is a lanky and lightly tanned Caucasian young man with shaggy golden brown hair, green eyes, and slight peach fuzz. He stands at approximately 5'9" (American measurement) and wears a yellow shirt under a wine red high-collar jacket with white off-center buttons, a black belt with a silver belt buckle, bellbottom jeans with rolled cuffs, and a pair of red lace up sneakers.
Voice Actor(s)
There is no specified voice actor at this time, but he would be speaking in a Brooklyn accent.
Trivia
- In the original 21st Century concept for this character, Nathan was intended to be a redhead with freckles and glasses. The design was changed following the alteration of the story's timeline. He is now loosely inspired by three other characters: Shaggy Rogers (from the Scooby Doo franchise), Ripple the Woodsprite, and Marty McFly (from the Back to the Future franchise).
- According to the author's research, Johannes Gutenberg is not known to have had any children during his lifetime. However, he was the youngest son in his immediate family, so Nathan is considered to be a modern descendent of one of those other siblings.
- In one scene, Nathan admits to having watched a chick flick type of film to impress a young lady named Dolly, establishing that he is somewhat interested in dating.
