Pants (also referred to as trousers) are a standard form of clothing worn by both men and women.
Mainstream Smurfs Media[]
Most if not all male Smurfs wear white pants in any mainstream Smurfs media. They usually have footings attached to the legs and a hole in the seat for a Smurf's tail. In the Smurfs: The Lost Village film, Smurfwillow of Smurfy Grove also wears pants.
Empath: The Luckiest Smurf stories[]
In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, Tailor is the Smurf who is primarily responsible for creation and repair of pants that the Smurfs wear. In the years following Empath's final return from Psychelia, he also has made pants for Smurfette to wear in place of her traditional skirts and dresses. In the village on Smurfette Island, the Smurfettes may also wear pants instead of skirts or dresses, depending on their occupation.
Like their hats, the pants are made from thin insulated wool so as to give the Smurfs maximum freedom of movement as well as protection from the elements while being comfortable enough to allow their skin underneath to breathe so as not to cause heat exhaustion.
Light And Dark Stories/Expanded AU[]
Within The Light and Dark Series, which crosses over with the Expanded Animated Universe, pants are an essential part of one's wardrobe. Specifically in the Smurf Village, most Smurfs wear a pair of white trousers, but some have unique differences to showcase their identities from the crowd.
Papa Smurf wears red trousers to match his hat, which both are symbols of his role; he may change his colors after passing the leadership role to the Smurf (or Smurfette) of his choosing. Meanwhile, Joey McCormick wears a pair of purple trousers to match his hat.
The Smurfs: Two Sides[]
In The Smurfs: Two Sides, pants with attached foot parts are called "tights," whereas pants with no attached foot parts are just referred to as "pants." Tights are commonly worn among the boys of Smurf Village, with only a few of them wearing separate pants and shoes. Nanny Smurf also wears tights underneath her dress.
In Smurfy Grove, girls normally wear dresses instead of pants or tights. Some girls do wear tights under their dresses, such as Smurfwillow and Smurfthunder.
