In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, a special variation of pixie dust causes a euphoric reaction to anyone who inhales the dust through snorting (similar to the effects of cocaine), though very few living beings in the forest actually use pixie dust for this purpose. Since only pixies make and use the normal magic version of the dust, it is highly controlled and thus hardly anyone besides them is found with any quantities of pixie dust apart from evil people (most likely trolls and imps) extorting it from the pixies. In "The High Cost Of Smurfing", Vanity was seen with vials of the recreational variant of pixie dust, inhaling it through his nose in the privacy of his own home, though constant use of the product almost lead to his death. Scullcap, the supervisor of the pixie dust refinery in Pixitopia, is discovered to be the one who introduced Vanity to this variant of pixie dust and was even creating and selling it for profit. It also acts like scopolamine ("Devil's Breath"), as Scullcap blew some pixie dust in Empath's face, getting him to fall under the influence so that he could manipulate him to his own ends.
In "Smurfed Behind: The Other Side Of The Mirror", a Smurf from the Mirror Universe was seen in that Smurf Village's Tapper's Tavern snorting up a handful of pixie dust.
