Poet Smurf is Smurf character, and a protagonist of the Butterverse,
History[]
Poet Smurf is one of the residents of the current village, and the local writer. He is usually left in charge of poetry, writing and plays. He is a descendent of Scribe Smurf, the old village storybook writer.
Personality[]
Poet is a mild mannered and romantic Smurf with a love for classic literature. Although he was known for being a little hot-headed in his younger years, Poet’s personality seems to have mellowed somewhat unless he gets very riled up, in which case he is much more likely to snap in anger. He can be somewhat gullible, genuinely wanting to see the best in others even when their actions (or gifts, in particular) seem suspicious. Poet is often one of the kindest and most trustworthy Smurfs in the village, and although they don’t always enjoy his longer poems, the others are fond of him.
Appearance[]
Poet is of average height and quite lithe for a Smurf. He wears standard white leggings and a white Smurf cap, which has a purple feather pinned into the left side. Poet has freckles along his ears, cheeks and nose, and on his shoulders. He is often seen with a quill and parchment in his hands.
Role In The Village[]
Poet is, above all, the village bard. He writes and recites his own poetry, both for personal entertainment and to show to his friends as a means of performance at Smurf theatre. He is also in charge of writing plays that are often put on at the theatre, and often co-directs these with his friend Actor Smurf. Poet will sometimes write himself into the plays as well.
Relationships[]
Smurfette[]
Smurfette was Poet’s original muse, although his feelings for her died out after she became involved with Hefty Smurf. He still considers her a good friend of his, and will usually run his poems by her for approval, knowing she genuinely enjoys listening to him.
Painter Smurf[]
Painter Smurf is Poet’s life partner, and long-time friend. The two have been fairly close since they were Smurflings, since the two are some of the most creative in the village, although they have had their own petty fights, most notably the time the two ran away to Storm Island and were arguing over who was allowed to honour a fried egg in their work.
They also fought over the creation of a new storybook for the Smurflings that Papa requested they put together for the Festival Of New Beginnings. This didn’t work out according to plan and the two were instead sent to collect the rainbow crystal from the crystal empire, which they inevitably ended up breaking a chip out of. A songbird broke the ensuing fight, and gave Poet an idea for both a new poem and an art piece from Painter, restoring their friendship. Poet would eventually propose to Painter via another poem, having invited him up to Smurf hill to hear his latest ode.
Visionary Smurf[]
Visionary is Poet’s oldest son, and the two have a very strong relationship due to Visionary’s love of writing just as much as his art. Poet was the first to become concerned when his son began to show signs of being a bit over-zealous as a Smurfling, so he’s always done his best to encourage Visionary to take creative breaks and avoid burnout. Like Poet, Visionary tends to keep his temper under control (having possibly had Painter’s original temperament taught out of him by Poet who was concerned about the combination). The two are close and Poet enjoys playing word games such as creating limericks with him.
Patisserie Smurf[]
Patisserie is Poet’s youngest son, and Poet is supportive of his baking hobby. Admittedly, he was quite surprised when Patisserie’s first word turned out to be ‘croissant’ instead of something like ‘sonnet’ or ‘haiku’, but Poet admits he was easier to raise than an overachiever like Visionary. Poet tends to be far more supportive of Patisserie’s relationship with Luddite Smurf than Painter is, so in some ways Patisserie is even closer to him at times.
Other[]
Actor Smurf[]
Actor is Poet’s co-worker and possibly his most platonic best friend. The two work together in Smurf theatre to produce plays and will usually co-direct. They’re good friends outside of work too, and can usually be seen hanging out together casually around the village.
Somebody Smurf[]
Although they aren’t as close friends as their husbands are, Poet and Somebody maintain a strong bond as well, often hanging out together for an evening when Painter and Don Smurfo are having their own kind of guys night. Poet and Somebody share similar trepidations about their childish antics, but love and trust them regardless.
Trivia[]

- Poet quite likes fruitcake, as it’s a bit of an inside joke between him and Painter
- It is known that Poet’s grandfather Scribe Smurf was best friends with Dauber Smurf, Painter’s grandfather
