Prince Leon is a character that is part of the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series.
History[]
Originally known as The Gnome Prince in the cartoon show, he is the son of King Glouton, the ruler of an underground gnome kingdom who has an insatiable appetite for food that was brought upon since the day his wife Queen Maurine had died. Prince Leon's encounter with Greedy Smurf was in the story "Chez Empath" where Empath took over as the village chef during Greedy's illness, but upon Greedy's recovery found out that the village wanted Empath as the village chef instead of Greedy, making him feel unappreciated and jealous of Empath. Greedy left the village and offered his services to the constantly hungry King Glouton, whose son was always left on hold when it came to doing things together, always promising "after dinner" but never delivering on the promise.
Greedy befriended the prince and offered to take him fishing, but the king wouldn't let Greedy out of the kitchen to do anything else but cook and so was imprisoned to eternally serve the king. Prince Leon sent word to Greedy's friends about his predicament, and Empath, Smurfette, Grouchy, Tapper, and Duncan McSmurf came to help Greedy escape his prison, with Empath telling Greedy that he never really wanted to take over as the village chef. Eventually Prince Leon delivered an ultimatum to his own father that if he didn't release Greedy or his friends, he would forever leave. King Glouton realized what he would lose and decided that he should start spending time together with his son like he promised, thus allowing Greedy and his friends to leave in peace.
Personality[]
He is a kind and gentle prince who is understandably upset by the amount of neglect his father had given him over the years since his mother had died. Although presumably timid in the face of doing anything against his own father, Leon showed courage after a showdown between the Smurfs and the king's guards that would have resulted in either the Smurfs escaping with Empath using force if necessary or the Smurfs being put down through extreme measures if Empath attempted to use force.
