Puppy is a character from the original cartoon show. His Wiki page is located here. He also exists in The Smurfs: Light and Dark.
Background Information
Puppy is an immortal being named after his age. He is generally energetic, excitable, loving, and loyal to his caretakers so long as they look after him well, and Homnibus was his owner he gifted Puppy to the Smurfs, likely seeing how it would benefit the Smurflings and teach them responsibility. He may also have done this knowing that the Smurfs have longer lifespans than himself (even with his magic slowing his age rate) and that it would keep him, his adopted son, and Puppy safer from power-hungry villains like Lord Balthazar.
The magic locket around his neck is what keeps him eternally young, containing "the key to all magic," and it can only be opened by someone who is pure of heart. Anyone else who attempts to do so will be struck by a spontaneous bolt of lightning. So far, the only known person to successfully open the locket is Baby Smurf likely because he is too young to have impurity in his heart and mind.
Appearance
Puppy is a beige short-furred dog with sienna patches on his back, tail, and entire right ear, a cream-toned muzzle, a large mahogany brown nose, and standard black eyes. His ears are floppy and so is his tongue, but his tail is small. The collar and heart-shaped locket are gold and quite shiny.
Voice Actor(s)
His original voice actors were the late Russi Taylor and Frank Welker, the latter of whom continues to be desired if possible. A suitable alternative may be Dee Bradley Baker who is also known for creating animal sounds, including dogs, in various roles.
Trivia
- With the exception of Feathers and Smoogle, Puppy is the only animal character to live in the Smurf Village for longer than several days. He is mostly cared for by the Smurflings, although other Smurfs may lend a hand when necessary.
