Rover is a Smurf character, and part of the next generation cast of Smurfs in the Butterverse.

History[]

Rover is the son of Dreamy and Tracker and the current leader of the Smurf scouts. Rover has always spent more time outdoors than in, so he knows almost everything there is to know about the surrounding forest. He can identify plants blindfolded – in fact he earnt a badge for just that. He can also tell a poisonous one from an edible quite easily.

He resides in the village, but can often be seen camping in the forest. He earnt his name from his hobby of wandering off.

Personality[]

Rover is an enthusiastic and kind Smurf with a passion for outdoorsy activities and a love for all-weather camping.

Rover is an incredibly level headed Smurf, but he hates authority being pushed unfairly around him. He also has next to no temper, his biggest display of anger being if a Smurf endangers themselves to which they’ll get a quick ‘do you have any idea how dangerous that is?!’ followed by ‘who wants Smurfberry smores?’. If faced with an argument, Rover will always let the other run out of steam before calmly explaining his point of view.

Appearance[]

Rover is of average height and weight for a Smurf, but in good condition. He wears a tan coloured hat which has a red band and green feather, and a matching long sleeved jacket. He wears a red bandana under his hat, and an orange scout woggle. He usually has his scout sash with any assortment of badges. Rover’s left eyebrow has two slits. He speaks with an English RP accent.

Role In The Village[]

As a scout leader, Rover often educates the younger Smurfs on the dangers of the wild, and has learnt a few tricks from Wild himself. His skills come in handy if the Smurfs need to explore, especially overnight, because he has much of the immediate forest memorized, and can quickly find shelter. If not, he had the badges and know how to build one.

Relationships[]

Dreamy and Tracker Smurf[]

Rover is exceptionally close to both of his parents, perhaps even one of the closest out of all of the older next generation Smurfs.

When he was an infant, Tracker Smurf fell ill when he was exposed to a foreign Sleeping Death plant, and Rover was quarantined away from him for some weeks to try and let Tracker rest. This did cause some attachment issues in Rover as a young child, who hated being too far from Tracker from that moment on and would literally cling to him for fear of being taken away. The actual fear of loss got better over time, although the close bond remains.

For a short time, Rover believed that Dreamy didn’t like him much as he would always refuse to read him to sleep. This could not be further from the truth, and it turned out Dreamy is dyslexic and could not read the stories but was too embarrassed to admit so. Upon finding this out, Rover opted to read TO Dreamy instead, which became much more fun in his eyes. The two quite often go sailing together, and Dreamy tends to call Rover his first mate.

Nova Sweef[]

When Rover was a young child, he was an only child. This all changed overnight when the next morning he found that overnight his parents had taken in a young Sweef, the nibling of his parent's friend Britt. Rover is initially jealous and protective of his parents, especially Tracker, and would often hug or attempt to steal their attention away from this new, 'random' baby,

As the two grew up together, Rover's attitude and personality mellowed considerably, and in their current state, the two are incredibly close, and genuinely consider each other siblings as much as possible. Rover has attempted to teach Nova whittling, with limited success, but he maintains a positive and supportive older brother figure for them.

Hunter Smurf[]

Hunter is Rover's first cousin once removed, and they get along well in an uncle/nephew sort of way. Rover's wilderness skills outmatch Hunter's, but he admires Hunter's dedication and spear fishing abilities, as well as his style, choosing to create slits akin to his cousin's on the opposite eyebrow.

Marco Smurf[]

Rover adores Marco, but looks up to him as an uncle, enjoying the tales of the open seas and fierce Pepper Pirates. Rover is also very quick to defend Marco if any other the other Smurfs whisper about his eyepatch or scars, which he has always considered cool. As a Smurfling, he loved riding on his shoulders or helping him sample the spices he brought back with him. He used to accidently overshare or exaggerate insights on Dreamy and Tracker's marriage as kids do, but luckily Marco thought it hilarious, much to Rover’s parent’s embarrassment.

Vitriolic Smurf[]

Vitriolic is Rover’s best friend, although he can find her exasperating. He’s not unaware of her crush on him as teens, but his crush on her fades as children as he found her somewhat spiteful personality off-putting for romantic feelings. As a close friend of the family, he likes her platonically regardless and the two do share common interests such as sailing, which they will sometimes do on their own. Regardless of their rocky dynamic at times, the two support each other through thick and thin.

Precocious Smurf[]

Precocious Smurf is Rover’s boyfriend, and in many ways his other best friend. The two share a common interest in exploring the outdoors and have very similar senses of humour. Rover does find himself being the negotiator between him and Vitriolic at times, as the two do not get along very well due to a shared crush over him. In general, Rover will usually take Precocious’ side in matters if he absolutely must, but his conflict avoidant personality usually has him trying to see both sides. He’s especially fond of going exploring with Precocious, and is always excited when he finds new places to map out and show him, although he knows he isn’t as fond of hiking as Rover himself is.

Trivia[]

  • Rover’s favourite food is Smurfberry smores.
  • Rover is an excellent wood whittler, and loves making little carvings, especially of forest animals he sees.
  • His favourite song is ‘The Wild Rover’ although he is not Irish. He learnt it from Miner Smurf, and often sings it with Lapidary Smurf, who plays a fiddle occasionally.
  • Rover has a similar sense of smell to Tracker, which often helps with his wanderings as he is less likely to get lost.
