Señorita Smurfella is a Smurf character, and a minor protagonist in the Butterverse.
History[]
Señorita Smurfella (Elena) is a female Smurf character from the Don Smurfo series of storybooks. Originally appearing in ‘The Road To El Smurfado’, a book which followed Don’s journey across western Europe to Spain, Elena would later emerge from the books in much the same way as the titular hero. She currently resides in the village.
Personality[]
Elena is a feisty and lively Smurf with a passion for dance. At first, she was quite into the traditional storybook roles and tropes, such as herself being a damsel in distress, but as she’s spent more time in Smurf village, has grown accustomed to, and prefers the Smurf’s way of one for all, although she is still a romantic at heart.
Appearance[]
Elena is of average height and weight for a Smurf. She has dark brown hair, which she ties back into a low bun, and which hangs slightly over her ears. She wears a white Smurf cap with a red rose pinned into it, and a red and black style flamenco dress. Her shoes, although usually covered, are black heels with rose buckles. Accessories include rose earrings and a black choker. She often wears red eyeshadow and lipstick, and has a beauty mark on the right side of her face. Elena has a European Spanish accent.
Role In The Village[]
Elena is the village dancer and entertainer, and often looks after the Smurflings as she loves children. Her favourite activities are to read storybooks, teach them to dance, or practise language. At parties, she will often encourage her fellow peers to join in on the dance floor, and will rate them heartily based on their enthusiasm.
Relationships[]
Don Smurfo[]
Elena ‘meets’ Don during one of his storybooks, and at least in the fictional world is intended to be his romantic interest. When she emerges into the real world, she is confused by Don’s resistance to her affections, until he explains the difference between the books and reality, and how he is currently in a relationship with Somebody Smurf. This angers Elena, who feels cheated on (although her relationship with Don was, in actuality, merely an ‘act’ in terms of book logic) and she ends up slapping him.
The two rekindle a positive relationship after Elena and Somebody discuss the nature of the Don Smurfo books. It takes a little while for Elena to relinquish her feelings for him, but is pleased she has free will in the real world, and is one of his closest friends.
Somebody Smurf[]
Elena and Somebody originally got off to a rocky start, since Elena believed that Don had cheated on her with him. After a fierce argument over the nature of Don’s free will vs the books written by another Smurf, Elena breaks down and admits she no longer understands who she is, or what her place in the world is without the book story and Don to guide her. At this point, Somebody realises that she is just scared and adjusting, and opens up to feeling exactly the same way when he was released from Vanity’s mirror (making Elena one of the quickest reveals). The two settle their differences, and Somebody convinces her to go and talk to Don about their situation. The two now consider each other friends.
Quixotic Smurf[]
As a friend of the family, Elena is very close to Quixotic, and acts as an aunt figure, and a strong female role model. She has taught Quixotic a lot of Spanish, and considers the Smurf to be one of her most proficient dance students, so will often take Quixotic under her wing as an assistant during lessons with the other Smurfs.
SmurfGadget[]
Elena meets Gadget in the village when she overhears the grover speaking a language she recognises - Spanish, although a different dialect. Elena is of European Spanish origin, whilst she finds that Gadget is Mexican instead, but this soon turns into friendship as they compare and contrast their cultures. Elena's books were written many years ago and are 'outdated' to modern Smurf life, and so she becomes fascinated by Gadget's modern and wild inventions, and in return teaches Gadget some of her own skills in terms of dance. The two eventually start to become romantic.
Rio The Smurfataur[]
Elena and Rio both feel as though they're working on moving away from something that shouldn't define them. For Elena it's removing herself from her character in the books and becoming her own person. For Rio it's being the only one of her kind (that they know of). They do not seem to mind this, as emotional company is what is important to the both of them, and they find that in each other and have a close friendship because of it.
Trivia[]
