Tailor Smurf is a character from the original comics and cartoon show. His Wiki page is located here. He also exists in The Smurfs: Light and Dark. To see a full list of episodes in which he appears, please CLICK HERE.

Background Information

Tailor has one of the most important roles in the Village, much like Handy, because he is responsible for creating most ordinary household items such as towels, furniture upholstery, curtains, blankets, and tablecloths -- and Smurf clothing, above all. He has also been known to occasionally flex his dollmaking skills. Working out of his shop, it is unanimous that no one, Smurf, man, machine, or otherwise, can replicate his work.

  • Negative Aspects -- His desire to work alone and refusal of most Smurfs' offerings to lend him assistance tends to render him an outcast to the rest of the village. In moments between projects, he may think about this deeply enough to realize how lonely he is, so he quickly sets back to work. Some Smurfs, like Papa and Nanny believe Tailor accepts more work than he can handle to distract himself from this truth. Meanwhile, Tailor is hesitant to break the standard clothing designs and will only do so for the most persistent of Smurfs.
  • Positive Aspects -- It may take a long time to fulfill certain tasks for his fellow Smurfs (such as new dresses for Smurfette, a new onesie for Baby, or a new red hat for Papa), but when they are finished, they are made to last thanks to his dedication to high quality. While he dislikes breaking standards in design, he does appreciate a challenge -- such as letting the Smurflings create their own fashion apparel. If given the proper support, Tailor may someday enjoy thinking outside the box.

Relationships with Other Smurfs

Tailor has developed keystone relationships with several notable Smurfs in the village.

  • Smurfette -- Like many of his fellow Smurfs, he develops a crush on Smurfette, but his attraction has waned after she claims that she is too young to marry. He sympathizes with her when she is saddened and likes to make her special garments if he can find the time, which has helped their friendship blossom. With her being one of his more frequent visitors, they have a good relationship.
  • Spinner -- One of his fellow clothmakers. Although Tailor has been known to gather flax seed and other basic supplies as needed for his trade, he relies on Spinner to create thread bobbins from the wool that Wooly provides during the annual harvest night.
  • Weaver -- One of his fellow clothmakers. Once Spinner has provided freshly spun thread bobbins, the supply that goes to Weaver is woven into cloth with which Tailor can use to sew every Smurf's clothing, including mends and patches.
  • Wooly -- Tailor may be frustrated by the fact that Wooly only needs to work one day each year on his namesake's craft, but without the wool provided by him, the clothmaking process that the village depends on until the next harvest would be lost. Tailor takes solace in knowing that Wooly helps around the village with ordinary chores between that harvest time, though.

Relationship with Moxette Smurfette

He first meets Moxette in "Peewit's Smurfy Creation."

  • Season 1 -- Tailor immediately sets to work creating her wardrobe. She asks him to make duplicate articles of every other Smurf's clothing to her measurements, which strains their initial relationship, but he begins to enjoy her visits to his shop. He accepts that she will always be one of his most appreciative consumers.
  • Season 2 -- Pending...

Appearance

He is easily identified from his fellow Smurfs by wearing a tape measurer around his neck, and his white Smurf hat is customized as a cushion with at least two pins sticking out from the top at all times. He may also be seen carrying around his sewing supplies or clothes.

Voice Actor(s)

In the cartoon show, he was voiced by Kip King in a "Hollywood star" accent. Another suitable choice would be Nathan Lane, known for his work as Timon the Meercat in The Lion King Disney film franchise.

Trivia

  • Tailor's original accent is supposed to be a reference to immigrants that came to America and worked as tailors/seamstresses for a living.
  • Besides clothing, he was the one to make Sassette's favorite doll, "Smurfy Lou." Later in the LD Stories, he creates a set of Johan, Peewit, and Princess Savina dolls as a gift for Moxette, showing improvement in this specialty.
  • He states that his favorite food is Smurfberry soufflé in the Season 8 episode, "Denisa's Greedy Doll."
