The Blue Plague is a disease that affected the Smurfs in an alternate timeline that Traveler Smurf had briefly visited in the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story "Empath Goes Wild". In that timeline, the disease was so deadly that it affected all the Smurfs that were living in the village at the time of its outbreak, which included Papa Smurf. The disease, however, did not affect Brainy, Hefty, Baby Smurf, or the Smurflings who were just approaching the village around the time that it happened, and was most likely prevented from spreading by a magical barrier that was cast over the entire village. Traveler did not see what became of the Smurfs after the outbreak of the disease since he was pulled back into the normal central timeline by Alternis, but it is surmised that Hefty, Brainy, Baby Smurf, the Smurflings, and whatever other Smurfs were with them outside the magical barrier were the only survivors.
Thankfully, even though Traveler himself was inside the magical barrier examining the Smurfs who were affected by the disease, he was immune to it due to the fact that he was a time guardian and did not carry the disease back to the normal central timeline.
