This page features a comprehensive list of deleted episodes and characters, revised episode plots, and alternate episode titles from The Smurfs: Light and Dark series. These elements were cut or altered due to story changes or a lack of proper placement throughout the writing process while completing each Season, so in the spirit of not forgetting those that were lost, please enjoy what never came to be despite the author's best attempts to include them.
Characters
These names are listed in alphabetical order.
Cut Out Entirely
These characters were intended to fit somewhere throughout the LD Stories timeline, but they ultimately did not last through the end result.
- Daisy Booker -- In the initial story draft for "Smurfs in the City," Tony was set to have a tween-age or teenage sister who would have been the skeptic against his belief about "little blue creatures" having existed (only to be proven wrong at the end). She was cut because the location was changed from a personal household to a college dorm, making it less believable that Tony's younger sister would be present. She still exists by Word of God and was designed, but she never debuts in this episode. She was cut shortly after being drawn and scanned for coloring alongside Nathan and Tony on August 11th, 2020.
- Damien Spiroux -- Pending...
- Dorgan -- During the early years of production on The Goblin's Admiration, plans were in motion to have a character debut later in Season 1 or Season 2 as an admirer for that story's cursed antagonist, Wisteria. He was a fellow Woodelf who was a farm boy with two left feet and a kindhearted personality, but due to changes in the storyline that left little room for Wisteria's development, this companion for her only wound up with a character page, a few design sketches, and no place in the series. His name was originally spelled "Dorgone," and he was officially cut on August 24th, 2020.
- Geoffrey -- Pending...
- Gutsy Smurf -- Gutsy was discarded as a canon character (along with everything else introduced from the Sony Studios projects) on June 19th, 2020. He was soon replaced with the comic-exclusive character, Lucky Smurf, although what little art was made of Gutsy remains in several character galleries, such as Moxette's.
- Prince Orion -- Originally drafted on March 27th, 2012, Prince Orion would have been the future child of Prince Pyro and Princess Glacia (as suggested by one rough sketch found in their respective gallery pages). Over time, less attention was given to these Gnome characters in favor of the Sprites, Smurfs, and humans, so his character was scrapped. It is possible that he will appear in a sequel series, but no plans are currently in motion.
- Tulip -- Tulip was one of the first characters created for this series in 2010, but as the series progressed, there was no inclusion for the Wartmongers or Pussywillow Pixies. She was fully designed and given a character page with several Trivia Section exclusive cameo appearances during initial versions of one or two episodes (such as "Tripped Up" and "Sylke Hood"), but her character was never developed as the years went by. She was officially cut on August 24th, 2020.
- Unnamed Male Pussywillow Pixie -- On November 30th, 2011, a male Pussywillow Pixie was designed on a whim with no particular plans for incorporating him into the series for more than a one-shot appearance. Only one upper-body sketch was produced and he was never given a proper name. There are no plans at the time to attempt revisions or revitalization of this character.
- Vanessa Hopkins -- Pending...
- Woody -- He is a character from the original cartoon show who was intended to appear (most likely alongside his wife, Laconia) in the Light and Dark storyline a handful of times, but no such plans have come to fruition. It is assumed that he will not appear at this time.
Repurposed
While these characters did not end up appearing in the LD Stories timeline, they are not completely written off from the author's records. They are most likely, but not guaranteed, to be included in any spin-offs or sequel series in the future.
- Chlorhydris -- Pending...
- Evelyn -- She originally appeared in the Season 7 episode, "Gargamel's Sweetheart," and was considered to be introduced in Season 5 of the LD Stories, but more time was deemed necessary to focus on other characters within that season. She is primed for a more prominent role as an antagonist to at least one character from this series to continue their development in the future.
- Melina -- She originally appeared in the Season 7 episode, "Sassette's Bewitching Friendship," and was set to make at least one or two cameos during the LD Stories. She has since been relegated to a supporting or background character for the protagonists in a presumed future project.
Episodes
Over time, creative changes were made to improve the overall storyline of the Light and Dark series. While some episodes were simply renamed, others were revised (either in minor or major ways), and others were removed altogether to make way for alternative plotlines to be explored.
Cut Out Entirely
- Beautiful Beast (S1E10) -- This would have been an episode about Wisteria that showed her perspective about how she crossed paths with Hogatha and wound up being cursed as a goblin during the events of The Goblin's Admiration. Dorgan would have likely appeared as a motivator for her wanting some time away from her home. As Season 1 was further developed and the aforementioned Season Special was wrapped up, it seemed unnecessary to have this plot be given a freestanding episode, so it was instead infused into Act 3 of TGA. This made way for "Luck of the Smurf" as a replacement.
- The Gnome Princess (S1E14) -- As one of the earliest written storylines of this series, this episode would have featured the return of the Gnome Prince, Pyro, and his reformed gluttonous father, King Gordon, whose names would debut here. The plot featured the king introducing his son to a rival royal Gnome family with the intentions of signing a Peace Treaty between their kingdoms. The key to doing so would have involved Prince Pyro's willingness to befriend (and hopefully fall in love with) the rival Gnomes' daughter, Princess Glacia, and his response was against the notion from the start. It took several attempts on the princess and King Gordon's part to coax Prince Pyro into reconsidering, and it eventually yielded in the pair discovering that they share a love of fishing -- although, like his father, Princess Glacia's parents are often too busy with regal affairs to spend time with her on the water. By the end, the two would have shown promise in a romantic relationship, which convinced her parents to sign King Gordon's Peace Treaty and establish a new era in their kingdoms. This episode was replaced with "Sewing the Smurfs of Love," and all Gnome characters involved in this deleted episode are currently set to remain in the series, albeit with an altered debut.
- Good Knight, Moon (S2E06) -- While initially developing Johan's "villain's arc" in Season 2 (circa 2015), this episode's plot revolved around him being sent by Gargamel to rob Homnibus, having heard rumor of the old enchanter having an enchanted moonstone in his possession. Johan proceeds to do so, but during the night on his way back to the hovel, the full moon has a strange effect on him when matched with the moonstone. He is temporarily freed from the Heart of Darkness spell only to fall again to its power at sunrise, leading him to having memories of all that he does under Gargamel's spell, but he would not have any memory of the full moon's temporary reprieve. This plot was scrapped in August 2020 after discovering that Homnibus gave the enchanted moonstone to Johan at the end of La Pierre de Lune (The Moonstone), of which this story's focus was directly inspired. The moonstone still appears under a new purpose starting in "Blue is the Moonstone," but the inclusion of Johan's double-agent status no longer applies.
- Tug-O-War Court Affairs (S2E06) -- Originally in 2015, this episode was 07 on the timeline and was moved up in August 2020 to fill the slot where "Good Knight, Moon" once existed. On April 26th, 2021, it was determined that this episode's plot was too similar to that of "Poor Unfortunate Fools," so it was officially scrapped to make way for a new plot that had been previously off the table. TOWCA would have been about Peewit and Squire Josten competing for Falla's attention while visiting King Gerard's castle, but Falla was more interested in assisting the king with his attempts to find a suitor. The author has archived the original episode synopsis for posterity.
- Poet's Imaginarium Experience (S3E12) -- Originally drafted in 2015, this episode was the premise for the "Episodic Triad" of Season 3 and based on a playwright assignment during the author's college years. Over time, it became more sensible to merge this setup plot with the second episode. The original title was "Poet's Inspirational Imaginarium Experience" until the "Inspirational" part was dropped on March 29th, 2017, to create the PIE acronym.
- A Jurassic Animal of Water has Surfaced (Non-Canonical) -- Pending...
- Josten's Inner Light (???) -- Pending...
- Moxette Unmade (???) -- Pending...
- The Royal Faux (???) -- Pending...
- Water Falls (Non-Canonical) -- This playwright was the inspiration for the aforementioned episode, "Poet's Imaginarium Experience," and was thought to be lost following a change in laptops, several moving periods between two states and three cities, and Spring Cleaning events. A hardcopy was unearthed in an old folder once thought to have been discarded in April 2021, so a remastered digital version was swiftly created to ensure it would be preserved for posterity. It no longer serves as the basis for what this episode set out to be, but some elements of both the original writing assignment and this episode's (revised) plot remain in the series.
Rewritten Plots
These episodes were revised rather than removed from the storyline, and below is a summary of how much any episode was revised from its original form.
- Tripped Up (S1E05) -- Pending...
- Peewit's Smurfy Creation (S1E06) -- This episode underwent a near-complete revision from its original premise: Johan and Peewit were set to be visiting the Smurf Village when Peewit is inspired by the idea of Smurfettes being created by the Smurfette formula. He then creates Moxette and readily shows her to Johan only for his friend to convince him that she must live with the Smurfs. Her personality and attempts to mimic everything she heard was the original reason for Johan's comment about her having "a lot of moxie," thus inspiring her name. While this point remains in the revised edition, the leadup of Moxette's backstory and her bond with Peewit has been extended from a single day to a single month with him having kept her as a secret from everyone in the King's castle -- especially Johan. More dialogue was also included in the new edition to plant roots for Moxette's future relationships with her fellow Smurfs, including the tension between her, Brainy, and Hefty.
- Peewit's Unsmurfy Mistake (S1E07) -- In the original draft, Peewit inadvertently recites an incantation that turns Johan into a Smurf. This was later revised so that Johan is merely shrunken to the size of a Smurf to avoid continuity issues between the original cartoon show's various "fake Smurf" spells that were used by Gargamel and Hogatha.
