The Smurfs: Two Sides was created by NBrainy, who does NOT give permission for anyone to edit their pages on the series.

The Smurfs: Two Sides story series is a patchwork fanfiction series by NBrainy combining Smurfs: The Lost Village and the 1980s Smurfs cartoon show, along with a few elements of the comics and the 2021 CGI animated series. The series is intended to have an episodic structure, meaning that (aside from a few story beats) the episodes in each season can be watched in any order. The desired animated style would resemble the 2D art style of the 1980s cartoon. The stories in this series are written in a script style.

The Smurfs: Two Sides takes place after the events of Smurfs: The Lost Village, and explores the changes that come with meeting a whole new village of Smurfs. The series title "Two Sides" refers to the two villages- Smurf Village and Smurfy Grove. The "O" in the logo is stylized to be a combination of the male and female symbols in order to reflect this.

The Smurfs: Two Sides often touches on the topics of gender and sexuality, as it explores the dynamics of a "boy's village" and a "girl's village." There is an equal amount of romantic moments between opposite sex and same sex pairings, in a way reminiscent of the 80s show dynamic between Smurfette and the boys.

The Smurfs: Two Sides introduces many new characters, such as Weaver Smurf, Smurfpetal, and more.

Intro Sequence

The music would be a modified version of the 80s and 2021 show theme song- not as "modern remixed" as the 2021 show, but still a bit more modern-sounding than the 80s show.

At the beginning of the intro, we see Weaver Smurf, who's working on a tapestry that depicts Smurfstorm flying on Spitfire. We zoom in on the tapestry, and it suddenly becomes what's really happening- Smurfstorm flying on Spitfire over the Smurf Forest. She passes by Wild Smurf, who waves to her.

Next, we see a re-animation of a scene from Smurfs: The Lost Village. Hefty tries to impress Smurfette at the archery range, but gets interrupted when Brainy hits him in the back of the head with a practice arrow.

This is followed by shots of various things:

  • Baby Smurf telekinetically lifting Bucky into the air
  • Smurfbegonia chasing after a butterfly
  • The Smurflings sitting on the floor as Nanny Smurf reads them a story
  • Gargamel, Scruple, Azrael, and Monty in the Forbidden Forest
  • The rock band playing

We then cut to several Smurfs (Papa Smurf, Smurfwillow, Clumsy Smurf, Grouchy Smurf, and Smurfblossom) running from Azrael through the forest. Smurfwillow raises her staff and Azrael looks scared as the screen fades out to white, starting as a glow from her staff and going outward.

Finally, the screen fades back in to the Smurf Village, crowded with both boys and girls, as the logo appears.

Continuity With Canon

The 80s Show

Most of the episodes of seasons 1 to 8 of the 1980s cartoon show are considered canon here. However, some events have changed, and some episodes are not considered canon.

In this universe, the Purple Smurfs happened the way it did in the comics, not the way it did in the 80s cartoon.

Gingerbread Smurfs and Clumsy Luck both occurred, but with differences from canon. In this universe, the competition between Brainy Smurf and Greedy Smurf was instead between Brainy Smurf and Chef Smurf, with Baker Smurf acting as Chef's sidekick in the same way Clumsy acts as Brainy's sidekick. In this universe's version of Clumsy Luck, things happened pretty much the same except that Brainy did his whole "Oh, poor, poor Clumsy!" shtick after he thought Clumsy was dead.

All The Smurf's A Stage did not occur, and Timid Smurf is still Timid Smurf.

Season 9 did not occur.

The Lost Village

Smurfs: The Lost Village occurred mostly as it did in canon, although Scruple is still Gargamel's apprentice, and thus was at the hovel for the final Smurfette versus Gargamel confrontation of the movie. Scruple did not go into the Forbidden Forest with Gargamel, so the Forbidden Forest scenes remain unchanged.

Sassette and Nanny Smurf's existence mean that Smurfette wasn't the only girl Smurf in the village, and so Smurfette's insecurities mainly revolved around the fact Gargamel made her to do evil. However, Smurfette still felt delighted at meeting so many girl Smurfs her (mental and physical) age.

Smurfette was revived in a field of red flowers rather than a field of yellow flowers- this is inconsequential to the story.

The 2021 Show

The 2021 cartoon show is not canon in its entirety to this series, although NBrainy plans on writing several adaptions of 2021 cartoon episodes.

Some 2021 episodes are considered canon to this series, but don't have adaptions because not much would be changed. These include:

  • "Crashing Gargamel's Party" (where the only change would be Dopey's name)
  • "Smurf, Yes, Smurf" (where the only change would be the villain at the end)
  • "Poet Slam"
  • "Stormy Loses Her Mojo"
  • "Blossom Goes Wild"

These episodes would be placed somewhere in Season 1 of The Smurfs: Two Sides, with "Blossom Goes Wild" being placed after Wild's introduction episode.

Trivia

  • Most cartoon shows have their voice actors play multiple characters each. In order to make The Smurfs: Two Sides seem more like a cartoon show, the same principle is applied here.
