Tuffy is a Smurf character, and a protagonist of the Butterverse
History[]
Tuffy Smurf is a resident of Smurf village living in the current generation. He’s known for being a Hefty-wannabe who acts much tougher than he actual has the capacity to be.
Personality[]
Tuffy is infamous in the village for being a hot-head, and often tries to make himself appear more threatening than he actually is in order to keep up his appearances. In truth, Tuffy is mostly insecure and compensating for it, and actually has a pretty sensitive side he’s hesitant to reveal. He tends to get into scraps and physical altercations with other Smurfs a lot.
Appearance[]
Tuffy is one of the shortest Smurfs in the village, perhaps only a little taller than Tailor Smurf. He is of fairly good physique for a Smurf. He has a slit in his right eyebrow, and tends to be covered in plasters due to his fights. Tuffy wears a brown leather belt with a rectangular gold clasp.
Role In The Village[]
Tuffy doesn’t have a particular role in the village, although he likes to help out when he can. He generally does manual labour chores as he wants to build his strength.
Relationships[]
Hefty Smurf[]
Tuffy has idolised Hefty for many years, his idolisation becoming somewhat of an obsessive crush as a teenager, when he would begin to shamelessly copy the strongman and try and win over his affections by showing off. This never worked, due to Hefty being heterosexual and therefore incompatible with Tuffy (that and finding him a general bother) but this did not stop Tuffy from trying to win his approval anyway, just to prove a point to himself.
Marco Smurf[]
Tuffy shifted his affections for Hefty onto Marco shortly after talking with the Smurf about his high seas adventures in the Smurf tavern one night. Tuffy found he preferred that Marco was not only strong but ‘awesome’ in his own words, due to finding his profession and scars to be rather imposing, a trait he admired.
Tuffy started to hang around Marco a lot after that, to the point of almost fixation. This was annoying to the sailor at first, but Tuffy was simply being enthusiastic, and he found it quite cute after a while. Tuffy was pleased when Marco returned his affections, and worked to overcome his compulsiveness. The two have a genuinely close relationship and although Tuffy can still be a little clingy, it tends to be sweet rather than annoying. Tuffy is one of the few Smurfs Marco has revealed the origins of his scars too, and one of the only Smurfs he allows to see him without his eyepatch.
Vitriolic Smurf[]
For all of his tough-guy act, Tuffy absolutely melted when he became a father, and in fact was the one to suggest the idea to Marco in the first place. Vitriolic grows up to be rather similar to him in personality, although her impulsiveness tends to come across in verbal form rather than physical. Although she can fight, and unlike Tuffy would probably win, Vitriolic prefers cutting insults, which Tuffy has found he’s secretly proud of.
Skelly Smurf[]
Tuffy is a distant nephew of the sentient skeleton walking around Smurf, being a direct descendant of Skelly's sister ... he doesn't know this though.
Bigmouth[]
Tuffy claims not to be afraid of Bigmouth, in order to keep up his ‘fearless’ persona, but this isn’t all true. He does face his fear of the ogre, but still reserves a little trepidation about actually facing him.
Trivia[]
- When Tuffy becomes overly worked up, Marco will swaddle him in a blanket and call it a ‘Tuffy Burrito’ in order to calm him down. This irritates Tuffy no end but he puts up with it
- Tuffy tends to become quite flustered and will often call Marco ‘Sir’ out of some sort of respect, confusing him
- Tuffy gets quite seasick
