Background Information
Once considered just another little blue face in the crowd, Tuffy is so named because he idolizes Hefty and wants to as "big n' tough" as him. However, he has little understanding for the difference between courage and bravery, which often leads to him being impulsive, headstrong, and reckless. His kneejerk reaction to most problems in the village is to start a fight (either to defend his own title or someone else on the belief that they might need his help). This behavior gets him into more trouble than he expects, making him almost as disliked by his fellow Smurfs as Brainy or Nosey -- although, Brainy continues to hold the title, much to Tuffy's (and probably Nosey's) relief.
Role in the Village
While Tuffy claims to be an "on-call fighter," he follows Papa Smurf's orders and fulfills daily chores just like any other Smurf. However, he seems to be particularly agile, making it easier for him to slip in and out of sticky situations. This comes in handy for his own safety in cases where a beam falls over or a flying projectile is headed his way, but it tends to result in another Smurf's misfortune since he does not think to take the hit on their behalf.
Relationship with Moxette Smurfette
Tuffy first meets Moxette in the Season 1 episode, "Moxette's Survival Test."

Appearance
Tuffy wears the traditional white Smurf hat and trousers, but he is identifiable from the crowd by wearing a black belt with a gold buckle.
Voice Actor(s)
His original voice actor was Pat Fraley, and a modern choice would be Rob Paulsen who is known for such roles including Pinky from both the original and recently rebooted animated series, Pinky and the Brain. Tuffy speaks with a slight Brooklyn accent most frequently linked to "Mafia style" characters.
Trivia
- Tuffy is considered the "Scrappy Doo" of the Smurfs series, being somewhat of a Brooklyn-accented go-getter with a lack of social and self awareness. For the sake of historical accuracy, though, Tuffy was originally introduced in 1965 while Scrappy would not be introduced to the Scooby Doo franchise until 1979.
